Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20, 1964 is an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice president and the most powerful female official in U.S. history, as being the first African American and first Asian American vice president. She is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally she was the United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected the city's district attorney. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General for California. She was reelected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for health care, federal de-scheduling and cannabis legalization as a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her name is well-known due to the direct questioning she conducted of Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
